Originally named Jacksonville Municipal Stadium and renamed Alltel Stadium in 1997 until 2007, then in 2010 changed to the current name EverBank Field. EverBank is one of the nation's largest privately held banks with approximately $11 billion in assets.
The current stadium opened in 1995 on the site of the old Gator Bowl Stadium which was built back in 1949. Total capacity of 73,000, but with the expansions since has increased it to 76,867.
The re-opening was also the home debut of the Jacksonville Jaguars for the 1995 NFL season. It was the first time that an expansion team played its first game in a new facility. In January 1996, the Gator Bowl returned as a New Year's Day bowl game.
In 2003 and 2004, 47 million dollars were spent on the stadium to prepare for Super Bowl XXXIX where the New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 with 78, 125 on hand which was the largest attendance for a Super Bowl since 1994. Paul McCartney was the featured performer at halftime where he did songs like "Drive My Car", "Hey Jude" and "Get Back". The closing performance was a huge firework-filled of the movie title song "Live and Let Die". The improvements included a sports bar in the south end zone called the "Bud Zone", wider and larger video and scoring screens, escalators in both north and south end zones and a new suite called the "Sky Patio" right above the "Bud Zone".
During the 2005 through 2009 the team saw blackouts due to low ticket sales and would place tarps over approximately 9,700 seats to reduce the number of available seats to 66,851 to try to reduce the blackouts. But as the Jaguars continued to play better and with the stadium renovations that has been done over the past several years the team has not had any blackouts since 2010.
The following will give you the stadium seating, prices and availability for all events going on at the stadium.
The attendance record was set on September 29, 2007, when 85,413 attended the Florida State and Alabama game that was nicknamed the "River City Showdown".
In November of 2013, the Jacksonville City Council approved $63 million dollars of improvements to the stadium. Two end zone video scoreboards that are 362 feet long each and are the largest HD LED scoreboards of their kind in the world. In addition, a platform area was installed in the north end zone that has two wading pools, unique food and beverage offerings, interactive activities and 55,000 square feet of HD video screens which also is a world record for a stadium.
With the construction of the platform, it removed approximately 7,000 seats, so when necessary during major events that require a larger stadium capacity they bring in temporary seating to increase the level.
If you love football as much as we do, then you need to come and see us. See we lost a love one in 2014 to ALS at the age of 56 and his passion was NFL football. We decided to build a web site with NFL products and when anyone purchases $50.00 or more, we donate $5.00 of our profits to the ALS Chapter in St. Louis, Missouri who did so much to try to help him. Together, we CAN find a cure for this deadly incurable disease that affects so many people and even the players of the game we love.
